The World Harmonica Festival (WHF) 2005, to be held
in Trossingen, Germany from 2nd to 6th November
2005, has stirred up much interest among players in Hong
Kong. "The World Harmonica Festival is like a holy grail for
harmonica players. You've got to experience it once in a
lifetime," says Dr. Ho Pak-cheong, chairman of the Association.
世界口琴節(WHF)將於2005年11月2至6日重臨德國口琴之都Trossingen,
此盛事在香港口琴界早已掀起熱烈討論。正如協會會長何百昌醫生所言，參加世界口琴節是每個口琴發燒友夢寐以求的經驗，它將令你畢生難忘。
When a team of twenty-plus people was formed,
everyone was excited that for the first time, enough players were teamed
up as an orchestra to compete in WHF. A committee was
set up to focus on various aspects of the trip to Germany, including
travel arrangement, registration, sponsorship, publicity, music pieces,
practices and pre/post-tour performances. As time drew close to the
registration deadline, the news further spread to the schools and in
just two weeks, the team was augmented by nearly twenty school children,
enough to form another band for the School Orchestra competition
category. From the commitment of the delegates, demonstrated by the
dedicated preparation, the weeklong absence from office or school, and
the dear cost of the trip, you will admire the participants' enthusiasm.
當一個二十多人的團體組成時，每成員都很興奮，因為這是香港口琴界第一次以樂團陣容出征WHF參賽。為安排行程、報名、贊助、宣傳、樂曲、練習、旅程前後表演等事宜，籌委會亦隨之成立。組團消息很快傳到學校，在截止報名前兩星期內，竟增添了近二十位學生，足夠組成另一支學生樂隊。試衡量每成員所下的準備功夫、耽擱一星期的工作或學習、及昂貴的旅費，便可感受到他們對此德國之旅的熱忱。

The Hong Kong Harmonica Association Delegation
The delegation is composed of 54 people, with 43
harmonica players and 11 accompanying persons. The players range
from an 8-year-old boy to senior members with more than 40 years of
harmonica playing experience. The accompanying persons include the
Association’s Secretary Mr. Tam Hin-wai, pianists Ms. Eva Kam and
Mr. Chan Shek-lun, and video reporter Mr. Amos Wong.

代表團共有54人，計琴手43名及隨團成員11名。其中琴手的年齡分佈甚廣，由最小的八歲小朋友至琴齡超過四十年的資深琴友。隨團成員則包括協會秘書譚顯偉先生、鋼琴手甘貽芳小姐及陳碩麟先生、及錄像攝影師黃浩然先生。
Activities in Trossingen
The Festival is packed with activities including the
opening ceremony, competitions, workshops, concerts, late night
sessions, tour of the Hohner Harmonica Factory, and the closing
ceremony. In addition, the delegation will appear as performers in
the concerts of 5th November.

Altogether, the delegation has registered a
remarkable 47 entries in the competition.
In addition, the organizer has appointed Dr. Ho
competition juror, which marks the first time a Hong Kong harmonicist
receives the honourable assignment from WHF.

Programme: String Quartet No. 3 by
Shostakovich
The delegation’s full orchestra will perform
at the Gala Concert in the evening of 5th November. The
music has been carefully selected to show the world the uniqueness of
Hong Kong harmonica music.
Programme:
The first piece is a Suite composed by a
contemporary Hong Kong composer. It describes the life of Hong Kong
citizens from the 1960's to the present. The second is a piece of
well-known Chinese dance music; it is re-arranged for a full harmonica
orchestra by Mr. Lee Sheung-ching.
節目：Shostakovich 第三號弦樂四重奏
代表團的大樂隊將於11月5日晚間音樂會中表演。
節目：
第一首是現代作曲家許翔威先生的一首組曲，內容描寫自60年代至現在的香港生活。第二首是很著名的一首中國民族舞曲，由李尚澄先生改編給口琴樂隊演奏。
Travel and lodging arrangement has already been
made. Registration has completed. Players have been diligently
working on the competition and performance pieces. Weekly practice
schedules have been published for the harmonica orchestras.
